Stinky Tofu at Night It Up 2011 – Events

Markham – Warden & 7 @ Markham Civic Center
Friday, July 15 From 6pm to 12am
Saturday, July 16 From 12pm to 12am

This is one festival you do not want to miss.  Toronto always seems to be behind in offering what the people want.  Crappy tailgating at Toronto hosted NFL games, no food trucks, no food carts except hot dog carts and when they do try the city messes it up.  Well If you have not been, you should go.  Night It Up is built to mimic the Taiwanese and other Asian markets who come alive at night.  Toronto needs these events, as our food scene tends to die when the sun goes down and that’s when most of us are just getting started.

Still not convinced?   Read the below from the the official website and then tell me what you think:

“Some items that ought be bring immediate attention are the fish balls drizzled in curry sauce from Hong Kong, Xin Jiang style flame-grilled lamb skewers seasoned with cumin and chilli, and Japanese takoyaki – fried dumpling stuffed with diced octopus, tempura, pickled ginger and green onion, topped with an exquisite sauce made of mayonnaise, okonomiyaki sauce, and katsuobushi (fish shavings). But the most distinctive delicacy of the night will have to be given to the infamous stinky tofu – the unofficial national snack food of Taiwan – as the deep-fried fermented tofu fills the air with its unique with the aroma, begging the attention of passersby.”
