Taste Canada Cookbook Awards 2018

What an unbelievable night celebrating the blood sweat and tears of some of Canada’s best French and English cookbooks.

The night started with a grazing session of beautiful cheeses and accompaniments and a red carpet showcasing the talented authors. With the soon to be renovated Fairmont Royal York as the backdrop, the evening moved into the main hall for the award ceremonies.

We sat in the front row and chatted a wonderful lady who it turns out was the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Elizabeth Dowdswell. She was a pleasure to chat with and delivered a moving speech about being caretakers of our province and all its people who live here.

With so many wonderful entrants I could imagine it was a difficult task to choose the winners. I personally liked @christinetizzard book, @chef_wolfman and one I didn’t expect a mixology book by @kristy_gardner#cookingwithcocktails

Then there was the issue of the amazing food presented by some of the city’s top food purveyors.

Wonderful to see the students from Assiniboine Community College in Manitoba take the gold for their original dish created from scratch of a cast iron seared Hudson River Arctic Char with smoked maple birch glaze on heritage grains
